Homeowner and personal auto insurance rates in Maine continue to rank among the lowest in the nation.

State Insurance Superintendent Eric Cioppa says that recent national reports show Maine has the third lowest average auto insurance premium for the fourth year in a row.

Maine also ranks 10th for lowest average homeowners premiums nationally for the third year in a row.

Cioppa says Maine has consistently low auto premiums despite having coverage requirements exceeding those in most other states.

According to the Insurance Research Council, about 4.7 percent of Maine motorists are uninsured.  —AUGUSTA, Maine (AP)
