Maine high school football currently consists of three classes; Class A, Class B and Class C. However, the Maine Principles’ Association’s football committee would like to see a Class D added. The realignment is just a proposal with nothing written in stone. Currently there are 76 schools with a football program but in the past 10 years only 19 had increased enrollment while 57 reported a decline.

Under the proposed new alignment Cony high school would go from Class A to B, because of an enrollment of 787. Class B would be an enrollment between 625 and 849. 849 and above would be Class A. Class C would fall between 450 and 624. The new Class D would have an enrollment of 449 and below.
