Is this what they meant by the Circle of Life?

The original, animated Lion King was one of Disney’s biggest hits of all-time. The film was the second-biggest hit of 1994 (after Forrest Gump!) and ultimately went on to gross nearly $1 billion in theaters. Now Disney is making a “live-action” version (which is all computer animated) and I would say anticipation for it is mildly high — if these trailer view numbers are to be believed.

Disney tweeted that the first teaser for the new Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, broke an all-time record for more views in 24 hours for the company. It was watched 224.6 million times around the world in the first day it was available online.

In case you are one of the few people left on Earth who haven’t watched it yet. As of this writing, the trailer has been viewed over 40 million times on YouTube alone.

Here is the film’s official synopsis:

From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king must overcome betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place on Pride Rock.

The Lion King 2.0 opens in theaters on July 19, 2019.
