Chuck Barris, the lovable host and creator of the iconic "Gong Show" from the 70's has passed away. He was 87.

Barris had a long career producing and developing the popular game shows "The Dating Game" and "The Newlywed Game'' in the 60's. He was also a song writer; his biggest hit being "Palisades Park" performed by Freddy Cannon.

But it was "The Gong Show" for which he was most famous for. From the Unknown Comic, to Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine, the show was an original and totally unpredictable. It reached cult status though it was only on from 1976-1978, and then four years in syndication.
