Even as die-hard Red Sox fans we know it's just about time to throw the hands up on 2014. Everything that went right with the World Series Championship season last year has gone wrong this season. One of the biggest mistakes was signing catcher A.J. Pierzynski. He just didn't work out...and now he's gone.

Fans have been waiting for catching phenom Christian Vazquez to hit the Fens, and tonight is the night. You might have seen Vasquez play at Hadlock with the Sea Dogs. He's unbelievable. He was selected as Portland's MVP last year and he's been having a great season at Triple-A with Pawtucket.

Today the Red Sox designated Pierzynski for assignment and promoted the 23-year-old Vazquez. He'll make his major league debut tonight (July 9) against the Chicago White Sox, catching pitcher Rubby De La Rosa and batting ninth.

By the way, 5 rookies will start tonight for the Sox!
