Augusta Fire and Rescue is warning people to make sure they are using their backup generators properly.

According to Consumer Reports, generators are responsible for approximately 50 deaths each year.

Their suggestions for safe operation include:

-Never run a generator in an enclosed space

-Unless it has been covered and properly vented, never run a generator in the rain

-Before refueling a gas powered generator, shut it down and allow it to cool

-Store extra gas properly

-Do not backfeed your generator (use it to power your house by plugging it into a socket)

Please stay safe!
