More Than $15,000 Earmarked for Travis Mills Foundation Stolen from Augusta Elks Club

Any robbery makes you shake your head, but stealing money that was raised for veterans and wounded warriors is just downright despicable. That is exactly what happened at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Monday night (May 25) when robbers made off with more than $15,000. Most of that money was from a fundraiser for the Travis Mills Foundation, that was established by wounded veteran Travis Mills.

Gary Cooper, chairman of the lodge’s board of directors told centralmaine.com that, “We do have insurance, and hopefully it will cover the losses.”

The Augusta police suspect that the burglars entered the Civic Center Drive lodge between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning and possibly used power tools to break into areas where money (the total exceeded $15,000) was being kept and that "...the burglars worked effectively, if not strategically."
